What is CBD?
Cannabidiol (CBD) is a compound found in the hemp plant, also called Cannabis sativa. You’ve probably heard of the cannabis plant as containing tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) the psychoactive substance in marijuana. Unlike THC, CBD has been federally legal since the 2018 Farm Bill.
Our non-GMO, US-grown hemp has been bred to contain only trace amounts of THC to comply with Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and federal regulations. These plants are high in CBD content, with less than 0.3% THC. CBD is not psychoactive and does not have the adverse side effects commonly associated with THC.
Isolate vs. Broad Spectrum vs. Full Spectrum CBD
To get the most benefits for you, you can choose between different forms of CBD found in various CBD products.
CBD Isolate: There is no detectable amount of THC, and all other cannabinoids, flavonoids, and terpenes have been removed for the purest form of CBD.
Broad Spectrum CBD: THC is non-detectable but other phytocannabinoids (including terpenes) are present.
Full Spectrum CBD: This contains all the phytocannabinoids found in the hemp plant with less than 0.3% THC.
We chose to use full-spectrum CBD in our topical CBD products as opposed to CBD isolate or broad-spectrum CBD. We believe in the power of the full range of cannabinoids found in the hemp plant. These benefits often referred to as the entourage effect, can enhance your CBD experience when applied topically.
CBD in Topicals
Topical CBD products are designed to be applied directly to the skin, your body’s largest organ.
Your skin does a lot for your body, so you should treat it right. Our range of CBD creams and topicals provide benefits ranging from rich moisture to pain relief thanks to proven ingredients.
CBD topicals can be a CBD cream, lotion, gel, or salve that uses the inherent properties of high-quality CBD in combination with other botanicals to moisturize and soothe skin while offering relief from joint or muscle pain.
Powerful Relief with CBD Topicals
Tranquil Earth CBD topical products contain botanical extracts, essential oils, and other proven ingredients to ease aches and pains. Some of our CBD topicals are made with organic, full-spectrum nano CBD to provide higher levels of bioavailability than typically found with topical CBD.
What is Nano CBD?
Our Aqua Freeze Gel, Rapid Relief Muscle Rub, and Rapid Relief Roll-On contain organic full spectrum nano CBD. This cutting-edge formulation of high-quality CBD allows smaller particles of CBD to be delivered faster and more efficiently to targeted areas. This means you’ll not only feel results more quickly but also experience more potent effects than with standard CBD formulations.
Nano CBD is made up of the same cannabidiol as non-nano CBD, just broken down into very tiny particles. Those super small particles are then coated using micro-carriers to assist in the CBD’s delivery to the target area.
Amethyst CBD Body Butter & Amethyst CBD Lotion
Our fan-favorites Amethyst Body Butter and Amethyst Lotion contain several ingredients to help skin maintain moisture and elasticity.
Aloe Vera
Aloe vera has long been used topically to heal and soften skin. The FDA has not approved it as a medical treatment, but studies suggest it can help with UV damage from the sun or radiation treatments, rashes, dandruff, and minor burns.
The gel produced inside aloe vera leaves is rich in vitamins A, C, E, and B12 and contains 98% water to hydrate and soothe. Aloe vera also supports collagen production, helping skin maintain elasticity and hydration when used in CBD creams.
Shea Butter
Shea butter has a high fatty acid content, allowing moisture to be absorbed rapidly. It soothes skin, locks in moisture, and may help with minor inflammation, similarly to aloe vera. But unlike aloe vera, shea butter has no known allergenic effects.
Daily shea butter use may also prevent damage from UV radiation, as it acts like a mild sunscreen. This can help keep your skin looking young and healthy long-term.
Coconut Oil
Derived from the kernels, meat, and milk of the coconut palm and fruit, coconut oil acts similarly to the shea butter in our CBD cream to lock in moisture.
The fatty acid content of coconut oil provides a good barrier to protect skin from transdermal water loss, allowing it to stay moist longer. This barrier may also help keep out toxins and dirt that you encounter on a daily basis.
Rapid Relief Nano CBD Muscle Rub & Rapid Relief Nano CBD Roll-On
Made with nano CBD extracted from high-quality hemp, our bestselling CBD topical Rapid Relief Muscle Rub supports your exercise recovery and provides relief from sore muscles. Its mess-free twin, Rapid Relief Roll-On, works similarly to get you back in action.
Menthol
You’ve probably encountered menthol in cough medicines, mouthwashes, and tons of other products. It’s a compound that is found natural in mint plants and has long been used for its to help with pain. Menthol has been well-investigated by the scientific community when it comes to pain relief as well.
Menthol is a fast-acting pain reliever, but its effects are only temporary. Think of it more for short-term relief than long-term healing. Menthol works by creating a tiny amount of inflammation in the skin where it is applied. You’ll likely feel a cooling sensation at first, and it might turn into a warming sensation after a little bit of time.
Though you perceive these changes, menthol doesn’t actually change the temperature of the tissues it comes in contact with. It works for relief because this distracts your brain from the pain of your injury.
Arnica
Arnica may increase circulation in order to reduce inflammation and help with the healing of bruises and inflamed tissues. Many over-the-counter products can be found at your local drug store that contain arnica for this purpose.
Like menthol, it has been anecdotally used to fight pain and inflammation for a very long time. However, it is not FDA-approved to be a pain reliever, and not enough research exists to make any claims.
Methylsulfonylmethane
Methylsulfonylmethane (MSM for short) has become a popular dietary supplement because of its anti-inflammatory properties.
Research suggests that MSM has potential to help relieve pain where joints have been degraded, like what happens with arthritis. MSM may inhibit the breakdown of cartilage, giving your body a chance to heal itself.
Aqua Freeze Nano CBD Gel
Our latest topical CBD offering contains menthol and MSM as well as menthyl lactate to create a cooling sensation.
Menthyl Lactate
If you’re shopping for a cooling cream or gel, chances are it contains menthyl lactate, a derivative of menthol. It may also offer mild relief from irritation or itchiness.
In the case of our Aqua Freeze Nano CBD Gel, you can expect this compound to leave behind a refreshing, cooling sensation where it is used on your body.

CBD Topicals FAQs
Who should use topical CBD?
When it comes to topical application, CBD does not enter into the bloodstream to provide the total-body effects that you get with edibles, tinctures, or vapeable CBD e-liquids.
If you need targeted relief for joint pain or sore muscles, CBD topicals offer just what you need. CBD topicals may offer support for areas of discomfort, thanks to proven pain-fighting ingredients like menthol. Some who suffer from chronic pain try CBD and are able to find relief, but everyone is different. CBD creams for pain have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), so we cannot make claims about its ability to relieve pain beyond approved ingredients like menthol.
How does topical CBD work?
CBD supports good health and exercise recovery by acting in concert with your body’s endocannabinoid system (ECS).
CBD penetrates just a few layers of skin and acts on the cannabinoid receptors, particularly CB2 receptors, found there. By activating the CB2 receptors, CBD may enhance the soothing powers of proven pain-relieving agents like menthol.
Will I get high from CBD topicals?
While our CBD topicals are not THC-free, they all abide by federal regulation and contain less than 0.3% THC. Our products are thoroughly tested by an ISO-certified, third-party lab to guarantee quality and content. You can rest easy knowing you will not feel full-body effects or get high using topical CBD.
Is CBD legal?
Yes, CBD is legal. The 2018 Farm Bill ensured that CBD extracted from hemp grown in the USA is considered legal on a federal level.
